One of the true joys of my life is making people happy. For years, each December I donned gay apparel, specifically, an elf costume, and led groups on Holiday Lights walking tours. Watching little walkers, bundled up in snow pants, marveling at the twinkling light never failed to make my heart soar. The holiday magic seemed to work on everyone, even the most reluctant reveler would find themselves gleefully watching the skaters in Red Arrow Park, or chuckling at the display in the BMO Harris bank lobby, despite their best efforts to maintain a Grinch-like demeanor.
I love sharing the very-merry side of Milwaukee, but it is now time for me to hang up my elf boots in favor of new pursuits. This year, The Pfister Hotel is helping me spread the holiday spirit to guests by offering copies of the Winter Walking Tour. This easy stroll takes you through the streets of downtown Milwaukee while she is trimmed in her Christmas finery. The route begins and ends at the landmark hotel and takes walkers past the very best of the holiday displays.
I recommend walkers begin the route from the corner of Jefferson and Wisconsin, leaving my very favorite park, Cathedral Square, the Community Spirit Park, as your final destination. From there, return to The Pfister Hotel Lobby for some photos in front of the soaring 18 ft. Christmas tree, and end with a cozy drink beside the fireplace. I promise it will be a lovely way to enjoy the magic of the season with the ones you hold dear.
Complimentary copies of this very-merry tour can be found in the lobby while they last.
Travel Tip: If it is too cold to walk, I recommend taking the very budget-friendly Jingle Bus for a quick drive past the festively trimmed downtown parks.
